The fastest way to pull up a company is by its MC or DOT # (you can only use one at a time to search). Once you enter that number, click Search. The next screen will give you two options to see the company’s profile: HTML or REPORT.

Chose the HTML option because it is much easier to navigate through. The DOT Number is located in the left top corner of the page, and the insurance information is located on the bottom right side of the page.

Another thing to look for is the insurance and status of each license (active or inactive) that a company holds. The Department of Transportation requires that all carriers be insured for a minimum of $250,000.00. Brokers, on the other hand, do not have any insurance, since they have no trucks and nothing to insure!
