Q:

What is the difference between an open and enclosed shipping carrier?

A:

An open carrier is similar to those you see transporting cars to and from dealerships. These carriers vary in size and capacity. Vehicles that are moved via an open carrier are exposed to inclement weather and road conditions.

Enclosed carriers also vary in size and capacity. Since these carriers are covered, the vehicles in transit are not exposed to weather or road conditions. Enclosed carriers are recommended for antique and classic car shipping. Enclosed car shipping costs more than open transport.

Q:

Is my vehicle insured during shipment?

A:

Yes, Stateway Transportation Group LLC. is insured up to $1,000,000 and any vehicle that is on our carrier is fully covered. All of our transporters are fully insured to meet all state and federal requirements.

The driver thoroughly inspects the vehicle at pickup and re-inspects it upon delivery. However, it is your responsibility to make sure that any damage that may have occurred during transport is noted. In the unlikely event of vehicle damage, please document any impairment on the bill of lading and obtain the driver’s signature. The insurance company will not process claims if damages are not documented at the time of delivery.

Q:

How do I pay?

A:

There is no upfront fee to place your order with Stateway. We require a card to put on file, and only when your vehicle is dispatched and assigned to one of our carriers will you receive a call to confirm the shipping details with you.

At that time, we request that you pay the minimal predetermined deposit, which is subtracted from the total sum. Stateway Auto Transportation accepts all major credit cards or certified checks. The remaining amount will be COD (cash, postal money order or cashier’s check) upon delivery of your vehicle.

All credit card transactions are secure and protected. You can be confident in knowing that Stateway Auto Transportation is a verified Authorize.Net merchant.

Q:

Does my car have to be in running condition for you to transport it?

A:

Stateway Auto Transport offers to move cars that aren’t running; others do not. Make sure the representative with whom you communicate is aware of the condition of your vehicle.

Q:

How long will it take to ship my car?

A:

The time that it will take to deliver your vehicle is determined by the distance it is traveling as well as the commonality of the route being traveled. Most cross-country shipments take between 7 and 14 days. Shorter domestic shipments usually take 7 days or less.

We do require some flexibility for both pickup and delivery times, as drivers are on the open road and there are things can happen that may cause delays, such as traffic, accidents, breakdowns and bad weather. We always do our best to accommodate restrictions.

Q:

Where will my vehicle be picked up and delivered?

A:

Stateway Auto Transport provides our customers with door-to-door service, which means that your vehicle will be picked up/delivered as close to your home as possible.

Occasionally, due to the difficulty of maneuvering a large truck through inaccessible residential areas or because of local government regulations, the vehicle will be picked up from or delivered to the closest site available, such as a shopping mall parking lot or nearby street.

In any event, we will ask ahead of time if there is anything that might hinder the transport process due to the reasons previously mentioned. If so, then you and the driver will decide upon a mutually acceptable location.

Q:

What do I need to do to prepare my vehicle for shipment?

A:

To make the transportation process as worry-free as possible for both you and us, we put together this simple set of tips:

  • It is important that no loose parts be present during shipment and that, apart from the trunk, noting extra is inside the vehicle.
  • If you chose to ship by open carrier, then please remove specialty items such as ground effects, custom spoilers or large fog lights so they don’t pose a potential threat while in transport.
  • If you choose to ship via an enclosed shipping carrier, then the above tip is not a problem since your vehicle will be completely covered on all sides.
  • Please make sure that your car’s battery and any other fluids do not leak.
  • If the vehicle is inoperable — meaning that it cannot be driven on its own — please notify your representative before the driver arrives because we have special equipment for such shipments.
Q:

What can I put in my vehicle during shipment?

A:

Stateway Auto Transport does not authorize personal belongings in the vehicle nor are these items covered by carrier insurance. If you choose to put items in your vehicle, it is completely at your own risk.

You may put up to 100 lbs. of personal items in the trunk only. Not only are auto transport companies not insured to carry household goods, it is also against the law for them to transport anything except your vehicle. The transport truck is subject to inspection by the DOT and other authorities at every state line and can be fined if found to be carrying household goods.

Firearms, hazardous materials, illegal substances or contraband may not be placed in the vehicle under any circumstances.

Q:

How far in advance should I schedule my transport?

A:

The farther in advance you schedule your shipment, the more likely we will be able to meet the time requirements you desire. For best results, try to schedule your transport at least 2 – 3 weeks in advance. Stateway Auto Transport can do last-minute shipping; however, express shipping will be subject to higher costs.

Q:

What do I do if I need to make a change to my order?

A:

Similar to booking a flight or reservation, making a change to your quote or order may require re-quoting your shipment or even re-starting the order process from the beginning. This includes locations, dates, vehicle make and model, and carrier type. Payment and contact information can be changed with no additional fees as long as we are notified in a timely manner.

Q:

What do I do with my toll transponder?

A:

You need to remove your toll transponder or E-Z Pass from your vehicle. If you do not remove it or put it away, your transponder WILL charge your account every time the carrier passes through a toll charge point. Neither Stateway Auto Transport nor the carrier will reimburse for tolls charged to a transponder left in your vehicle.

Q:

Will someone call me before my vehicle is picked up and delivered?

A:

Contact is usually made (or attempted) the day before pickup/delivery. The driver or dispatcher will provide you with a time frame and will confirm directions. They will also advise you if it is necessary to meet the driver (usually at a shopping center or large parking lot) for pickup or delivery if he can’t get right to your door.

Q:

Can I pay for the full amount with my credit card?

A:

Yes, you are able to charge the total amount of your car shipment on your credit card. There is an additional 5 percent of the total amount fee per vehicle that we pass along to the carriers for this payment process.

Carriers actually prefer the standard (certified funds) method of payment for a couple of reasons. One is that carriers prefer the COD payment method to cover on-the-road expenses. Drivers tend to use the payments they collect to pay for their everyday expenses like fuel. When they pay for fuel with cash, they receive a discount, and this adds up to a very large amount over time.

Q:

Does it matter how much gas is in the vehicle when it is transported?

A:

The suggested amount of gasoline  in a car upon pickup is a quarter of a tank. We ask our customers to be sure of this because any extra weight, multiplied by several vehicles per transporter, might cause the carrier to be deemed “overweight” at a weigh station.

Q:

I still have other questions. How do I get additional shipping information?
